We sat down with Nikole Gennari for this week’s speaker series. Nikole is a rising senior at Gonzaga University where she majors in public relations and minors in marketing promotions.

Hailing all the way from Seattle, WA, Nikole is eager to learn and passionate about a career in public relations. At Gonzaga, she is involved with the Public Relations Student Society of America and will be the organization's publicity chairperson in the fall. In addition, she is a member of Lambda Pi Eta, the National Communications Honor Society.

What is your strength?

I have always prided myself on my organizational skills. When I wake up in the morning, making lists of everything I need to accomplish for the day, as well as a strong cup of coffee, are a must. Once I have these things done, it is easier for me to manage my time.

Why do you want to work in PR / Marketing?

It takes a tremendous amount of work to build a brand and give a company a voice. The variety of tactics PR and marketing require is what initially appealed to me when I began learning about the profession.

While I’m only just beginning, it is obvious that everyday is different in the industry.

From enhancing a company’s brand through social media to storytelling, there are many different scopes of work that I would enjoy being involved with.

Also, brands need to be creative in order to stay on top. Creativity is a quality I have possessed from a young age and because of that I hope to be an asset to help companies stay ahead of the curve.

What do you hope to accomplish during your internship at Garden Media?

I want to learn; mostly about the PR and marketing industry, how to achieve goals for clients and how to improve my writing style.

I’m looking forward to enhancing my knowledge of PR and marketing and gaining experience through Garden Media. A classroom education can only go so far and I can already tell that when I complete my internship I will have a deeper understanding of the PR industry.

What are you studying in college and why?

In the fall I will be starting my senior year at Gonzaga University and then the following spring I will earn my degree in PR with a minor in marketing promotions. I decided to major in PR because I was attracted to the creative aspects that are involved with this industry.

Where do you see yourself after college?

Since being away from home while attending Gonzaga, the distance has truly opened my eyes to how much I love Seattle. Ideally I would like to move back to Seattle and continue persuing a career in public relations and marketing.
