Gardeners are always looking for new ways to use what they grow, so drinking foods from the garden is becoming a big trend for 2014.

Though, Garden Media predicts that drinking your garden is a trend that has lasting power.

More and more people are tackling DIY projects. In fact, each year, nearly 1 million Americans brew beer and make wine at home. Just as popular, people are using the fruits and vegetables from their garden to make creative cocktails and smoothies.

Read on to learn a few marketing tips to take advantage of the "Drink Your Garden" trend and boost sales for your garden business while you're at it, too!

You’re the expert; show them how it is done! Hold workshops explaining how to create wine or beer out of the products they buy from you.

Fermentation is all the rage in home gardening right now. People love the DIY aspect of making their wines and beers from scratch.

If you can’t hold a workshop, start a blog with tips on how to grow these yummy fruits and vegetables--paired with recipes to craft different drinks!

Sell What They Need

Before you host your wine and beer workshop, make sure you have everything the DIY customer needs.

Grapes and grains are two important ingredients needed for fermentation-- as are seeds, fertilizer and trellis’.

Wine and beer are not the only ways consumers can drink their gardens! Groothies and smoothies are also great ways they can use the fruits and veggies growing in their garden. Expand your variety of fruits and leafy green vegetables to pique customer interest. A great display complete with freebie recipes and growing tips (heck, even samples!!) would be a smash!

To target consumers and gardeners with limited outdoor space, hone in on BrazelBerries and other great container plants!

Give Them New Ideas

Now that you have the supplies gardeners need and have shown them how to make groothies, beer and wine, give them new ideas.

Supply your consumers with recipes and DIY projects that they can do at home.

You may have already held a workshop telling consumers how to drink their garden, now give them new ideas on how to make their drinks even better!

You are the fruit and vegetable expert, so teach them what foods they can pair together for the perfect drink. Expose them to unique and unusual fruits or veggies they can add to their cocktails and smoothies to take the taste to the next level!
