PR Lessons Learned from the 2012 Election

pr winnerWhew! After months and months of political ads and signage, America finally has a winner: Obama. Obama gained a second term in office last night and gave his victory speech while Mitt Romney delivered a gracious, humbling concession speech.

When Obama clinched the necessary 270 electoral votes, almost instantaneously, Obama’s twitter account tweeted:

The photo and short, poignant caption has already been re-tweeted by over 640,000 Twitter users, which has become the most retweeted missive ever.

Obama’s continued use of progressive media served him well yet again this time around, which definitely helped him win. This election season was popping on Twitter and Facebook alike. Yesterday alone, there were 20 million tweets with the hashtag #election2012.

What PR lessons have you learned from this election season?
