garden media group memeWe live in a 24/7 world, where there is always a conversation going on Facebook, Twitter, Vine, Youtube.. People are going to be talking about the latest ending of a Phillies game or posting reviews about the newest Modern Family episode.

Memes give the people yet another avenue to express their thoughts; memes are a cultural sensation that have been growing exponentially. If you don’t know exactly what a meme is, don’t fret! We’ll cover that in just a second.

Memes and social media unite us as a nation and as a global community. Here, we’re able to connect, converse, and laugh about the same cultural icons.

Yet, memes can be an extremely valuable tool in your small business. Learn just how easy it is to become the next viral share on social media with a laughable, sharable meme!

What the heck is a meme!?

A meme is a virally-transmitted cultural symbol or idea. Memes travel way faster than any virus we’ve ever known! They’re typically a photo or video. However, memes can also be a hashtag, a word, or a phrase—think Romney’s Binders Full of Women comment that became a meme.

Other popular memes are Honey Badger, McKayla is Not Impressed, Bad Luck Brian, Scumbag Steve, the Actual Advice Mallard, Y U No, and the Most Interesting Man in the World.

Whew! Those are just a handful of the most popular memes, but just within the last week, there are a whole new slew of memes that have been developed.

How Your Business Can Benefit from Memes

The beauty of memes is that once these characters and memes are popular, your business can hone in on its success. All your business has to do is pick a popular meme, and add your own caption.

Memes are an instant hit on social media because everyone already instantly recognizes them and loves them.

Plus, memes are meant to be shared. Memes center on humor, so if your business creates a meme that makes your clientele laugh, they want to share it with their audience.

How to Make A Meme

The more recent the meme is, the better success you'll have. Again, you want to make sure you're keeping up with the times.

Also, ensure you’re following the correct syntax of the meme caption.

Here’s an example of a meme I just created. I used the McKayla is not impressed meme because it's one of my favorites!

For this, the typical caption is “Top Line:___(A Statement)____ Bottom Line: Not Impressed,” so to promote sustainable seeds, I did “Top Line: Regular Seeds? Bottom Line: Not Impressed. Be Sustainable. Grow Sustainable” The image then links to the Sustainable Seed Co.
