Pop the Future Question
Make sure your client knows you’re in it for the long term, not just this month or even this year. Plan short, mid, and long-term goals, so your client knows you can rely on you and your business all the time.
Talking about the future shows just how dedicated you are, but remember, never reveal all your ideas! Talk generally at this point! If you put all your ideas on the table now, why would they need you for the long-term?
Do More Than is Expected
Any request your client comes to you with should be done well and in a timely fashion. However, to show just how much you care, go above and beyond. Everyone loves the person they can count on for the best of the best.
Find out everything you possibly can about the topic they want. Get hard numbers, personalized stories, and travel to a variety of sources. The more you can deliver, the more they’ll realize they need you to make their business plan work!
Of course, you have brainstorming sessions together, but surprise is what keeps any (even working) relationships fresh. Next time you have a meeting with your client, surprise them with a fantastic, BIG idea.
Open up the meeting with this idea to set the tone. By doing something unexpected, your client will show that you are truly dedicated to making them a success, in both a conventional and out of the box way!
Have FUN Together
Meetings, emails, and work, work, work! Oh my! While your relationship with your client is a business relationship, for them to love your business, they need to know you outside of the office.
Go to dinner, to the theatre, a flower show, or a beautiful garden in the area. When it comes right down to it, it really doesn’t matter what you do. Just get the heck out of the office!
Chitchat about common interests, showcase your sense of humor, and make them realize why working with you feels less like work and more like fun.
